Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc. The first intercollegiate Greek letter fraternity for Black college students, was organized December 4, 1906 on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The fraternity was born out of the desire for maintaining close association and unified support for members of this small minority campus group.
Seven visionary founders organized the fraternity. It is through their vision that well over 150, 000 distinguish men having entered into the fraternity. The Fraternity is based on the principles of good character, sound scholarship, Christian fellowship, and the uplifting of humanity, primary the Black communities in the world.
All over the world, Men of Alpha have made significant contributions to black history and to the up lifting of our society. Men of Alpha are committed to making this world a better place to live.
Pi Gamma Lambda Chapter was chartered on January 6, 1989 at Fort McPherson Installation. Keeping within the true spirit of the fraternity, Pi Gamma Lambda provides outstanding leadership, scholarship and programs directed for the uplift of our fellow brother and sisters in the community. On January 15, 2009 as part of the 20th Anniversary celebration kick-off, Pi Gamma Lambda was the first to donate and deed the chapter’s historical papers, pictures, and artifacts to the Auburn Avenue African American Research Library.
On January 6, 1989... A new era was begun by these strong Brothers.
