Alpha Mentoring Academy

The Alpha Mentoring Academy, sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.,

Pi Gamma Lambda Chapter is open to young men in Clayton County and surrounding areas grades 9-12. From September-May, mentees meet every 2nd and 4th Saturday at the Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center in Rex, GA. Mentors work with the mentees from 11a.m.-1p.m. and provide programs and activities that develop them into productive citizens. 

AMA programs center around one of the following six areas.

Support

  • Program will provide a caring, positive and supportive environment to participants

  • Participants will develop skills to help them succeed in school, their community and in life

  • Participants will learn techniques to effectively communicate with parents and adults

Boundaries and Expectations

  • Participants will learn boundaries and clear rules and consequences taking responsibility for one’s behavior and decisions

Social Compentencies

  • Planning ahead and making good use of time and decisions

  • Learning and understand people of different cultural, racial & Ethic backgrounds

  • Resolving conflict nonviolently

Empowerment

  • Participants will learn values, ethics and service to others

  • Participants will learn techniques to feel safe and secure at home, school and community

  • Participants will be given resource information to understand useful roles in the community
